Welcome to Bemin Secondary College
Starting Year 7 can feel like a big change, but we want you to know you'll settle in quickly. Bemin Secondary College is a friendly, supportive place where you'll make new friends, try new subjects and discover what you enjoy.

WHAT SUBJECTS WILL YOU HAVE?
Like in primary school, you will have different subjects, but what may be different is that you'll have a different teacher for each one.
You'll have English, Humanities, Maths, Science, Health, Physical Education, Innovations Inquiry, Wellbeing, which run for the whole year.
Additionally, you will some specialist subjects like Digital Technology, Ceramics/Art, Drama and Food Technology. You will have two of these each semester,.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE?
Each school day officially starts at 8.52am - but our gates are open from 8.30am. You'll start the day with Check and Connect - an important eight-minute period to check in with your teachers and fellow students.
From 9.00am, you will have five hour-long periods for lessons.
In between, you will have recess from 11.00am to 11.30am, and lunch from 1.30pm to 2.10pm.
The day ends at 3.10pm.

WILL YOU HAVE YOUR OWN LOCKER?
Absolutely - and you will also get your own combination lock to keep your bag and other items safe while at school.
If you bring a phone to school, this is where it must stay. Mobile phones are banned for use by students at all government secondary schools.
If you're not used to using a combination lock, you may want to practice using one a few times at the start of the school year to get used to it.
LEARNING CULTURE AND OPPORTUNITIES
Bemin Secondary College provides many opportunities for students to excel and extend their learning, from participating in the Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP), to incursions that bring learning to the classroom, as well as fantastic opportunities to go off-campus and learn out in the real world.
