Behind the Bemin Name
In 2022, the Victorian Government updated the Department of Education’s School and Campus Naming Policy to ensure that First Nations languages were prioritised and recognised.

Bemin (pronounced bee-min) Secondary College's name is derived from the Bunurong word meaning ringtail possum.
This name was chosen following consultation with the community, including First Nations representatives, with the Bunurong people's language used as the school is situated on their traditional lands.
During the planning and design stages before construction and opening, the school was known by its interim name Truganina North Secondary School.
